Creation/Evolution Thread from Comments on Mailbag

Just come comments on the Chief Wazoo-shagadelic debate (hope I am welcome to intrude)

Commenting on shagadelic (don’t mean to pick on you, you’re just the last poster).

I could buy this alternate hypothesis. You would need to back it up with some further evidence of disease however. At the moment I would say that applying Occam's Razor would guide us to put the "disease" hypothesis on the backburner until more evidence of it showed up (and I usually use Occam's Razor with great care...don't wanna cut myself)

~~~By the way, they didn't find muscles.
They didn't need to. They can estimate the strength of muscles by examining the thickness of bone around the muscles insertion points. They do this in forensic medicine too to reconstruct human faces.
~~~Neanderthal man's skull was deformed by arthritis deformans

I do find it hard to believe all of these Neanderthals got arthritis of the face. Arthritis is not contageous. Why is everyone arguing about Neanderthals anyway, they are not a direct link to homo sapiens.

~~~why did only half of them evolve into humans or something else and the other half stay the same?
That's an easy one. :) As different "tribes" of the critters migrated to different environments, they would be under different environmental pressures to survive, thus would evolve into more than one separate line. I am also not sure exactly what the link between Australiopithecus and HS has been determined to be. It seems there are a number of different models for this potential evolution (some involving A. Africanus, some A. Afarensis. Has any consensus been reached?
I'm slowly working on mine. :(
