I was just reading through some old posts and saw a post where someone didn’t believe in evolution, but that God did create man, beast, oil deposits etc…
i honestly didn’t know normal / intellegent / internet user people still believed this…
i dont wanna start a big discussion on this, just wondering how many people out there dont believe in evoliton of man from pond scum, to fish, to reptile, ape, man… but that god created man as he is today and then made skeletons of homo erectus and other knuckle draging ape-men just to confuse historians…
Chonas atá tu?
As I’m sure someone will come along to tell you, this has been discussed over and over again in here. I recomend the search engine to find some very informative threads on this topic.
Also, http://www.talkorigins.org is excellent for anything you need to know about Creationism/Evolution
Finally, as a poll, this will probably end up in IMHO
Enjoy your stay!
Creationists must have more influence than is good for societey. A British college now joined Kansas in its fight against evolution being taught at schools.
Be extremely careful in jumping to conclusions on “God creating” carrying particular implications.
There are Biblical literalists who buy into “scientific creationism” and hold that every word of the Bible is literally true (except for the obvious exceptions, like Jesus’s parables being stories made up for the point and the metaphors in the Psalms), and therefore every bit of scientific evidence which is usually taken to contradict a literal reading must either be misinterpretation or fraudulent evidence. (To give them such credit as they’re due, this is only logical if you are first assuming an omnipotent, omniscient God and then that He provided a document which He directly and verbally inspired which must therefore contain His truth – after all, any scientific theory is simply the best understanding of the way in which all available evidence bearing on it should be interpreted.)
But the vast majority of people who believe in God think that He created the Universe as we know it to have happened, including the physical laws that led to the Big Bang, the biological laws that led to evolution in a Darwinian, punctuated equilibrium system, and so on. In short, that He was the active force initiating a world that operates and has operated according to the laws discovered by science – which were His doing as well.
As you can see, there is quite a distinction between these views.
