Our second, and last child is a little over 1 year old. Soon, she will be out of the same wooden crib her older brother cut his teeth on. Eventually, the crib will have to go. They have both have put quite a few teeth marks and gnaw marks on one of the short side top rails. The wife and I would like to at least save this one piece.
So my question is: What would be a creative, tasetful way to save/ display this piece of wood? In case it matters any, it’s about 26" x 2.5" x .75"
How about making a picture frame out of it? At 26" you might have enough for a 4 x 6 (n > 20") or a 3 x 5 (n > 16"). The tooth frame with a picture of the two of them in it would be a special and “tasteful” reminder.
Saw up the railing into four pieces to form the sides of the box, and turn the pieces so that the most gnawed areas are on the front and inner sides of the box. You might want to use the rail from the other side to make one side of the box, to make sure you have enough. Fasten (I’d use glue, but YMMV) them to a piece of plywood, painted appropriately.
Put various child mementoes into the box - things like a worn-out soother (pacifier, dummy…), a nipple off a bottle, a rattle, some diaper pins, maybe use a receiving blanket to line the box, blah blah blah.
Then glue a sheet of plexi over the whole shebang.
