Credit Card Question

Here goes… So I bought something on a credit card (Around a $300 purchase) on Aug 24, the Credit Card Statement closing date was the 26 of that month so it didn’t show up on my August statement. Well september bill closed yesterday and I’ve been watching online and the purchase still has showen up on the bill. I’ve since bought made other puchases at the same online location and they’ve already gone through, and I know the money from the first puchase was received or I woulnd’t have received my product. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else has had a purchase not show up on a credit card and if so how long before I decide that I did indeed get a free stereo.
(I don’t want to get into a legal or moral issues here becuase I don’t want the thread to get closed (legal) and I have no moral issues)

I have had purchases take over four months to show on cards, and just when you think they have forgotten, it appears.
If you got your goods and they got paid, you can be pretty much assured the amount will be added to your bill eventually.

This delay is generally a good thing as it (depending on the card) gives you time to save & pay it off without adding interest to the amount spent.

It’s wierd though, I’ve never had this place take very long at all to go through and like I said before, I’ve since given this same company money with the same credit card and they’ve already gone through.

Its interesting that you mention it’s an online store, though - they’re normally pretty quick. I’ve had purchase show up months late, but only at out-of-the-way places where they still use paper slips rather than swiping the card electronically.

Maybe the store had some kind of system failure and they have to use the old-fashioned paperwork to recover your card details. I can pretty much guarantee that you will be charged though - sorry!

Not a store as much as a third party payment service for auctions.

IIRC a few charges slipped through the cracks - mainly vending mach. for train tickets and the like.

The store is not obligated to charge you for several months. Rather, they do not loose the right to charge you for goods you purchased just because a few months have passed. You could easily get billed 4 months late.

If they really did goof their billing up, they’ll probably catch it when they reconcile their quarterly books.

Merchants have only 4 months to submit a charge. If the charge does come through after the 4 month time, call your card company and talk to them about it. You may have to answer a few questions, but they should query the merchant on the transaction and may even reverse the charge for you.

Merchants have pretty strict agreements they have to adhere to with the credit card companies. And, the credit card companies (and issuing banks) are getting better and better at enforcing those agreements as technology improves.

I paid for a holiday online - about £1,200 sterling. It took over 6 months for the money to be withdrawn from my credit card account. By that stage I was pretty confident that myself and my wife had had a free holiday. It was a complete fluke that the payment didn’t breach my credit card limit, particularly as it was the poverty stricken month of January when the payment went through.

Maybe you have gotten a free stereo but I doubt it. Whatever you do, don’t spend the money on the strength of it.

Maybe I should have contacted the credit card company as per Jane D’oh’s suggestion.

In any case, I wouldn’t go spending the stereo money yet…
