So I lost my credit card and I’m waiting for a new one to arrive in da mail. They obviously “froze” the one I lost. Now I have a check…is it possible for me to take a check to the bank and cash it in for direct cash without a credit card (but with my ID, SS #, etc?)
Lots of people have checking accounts, but no credit cards. They cash checks with Driver License as ID. As long as it has your picture on it, should be fine.
Is this a bank you have an account with? If yes, picture ID is sufficient, and they might ask you some personal questions to verify your identity.
If you don’t have an account, then most require two forms of ID. The first is always government picture ID (DL, passport, etc.). The second should be something with your name on it, it can or cannot have a picture. If you have a passport you could use that. I can’t remember if Social Security card works normally, telling them your number will most definitely not work as they have no way to verify. School ID and such may work. Where I worked, you couldn’t use both DL and state ID (they’re essentially the same thing in CA). We took, ahem, marijuana dispensary IDs as secondary.
YMMV and all that, this is based on a few banks. It may vary even across different branches or districts of the same bank. Call them first if you have a question.
Yokan your checking account at your bank is totally unaffected by anything to do with your credit card. Did you mean to say you have a promotional cash advance check payable to you but with the amount left blank issued from your credit card company. It’s a promotional thing they will occasionally send in the mail sometimes. If this is what you mean the only way to find out is to take it to the bank and find out. The bank may need to telephone the credit card company to get approval but yes that check should still be good if that was what you meant. Good luck with this. Go to the bank and find out the worst they can do is say no.
