Credit Card

Hello I was gone tonight when I got home my wife for some reason put a trip to florida from something called travel1vacation.com looks sketchy to me so I told her to call the credit card company back and cancel it, they said you can’t cancel a pending transaction. I read on the net you can cancel your credit card payment for any reason , how come they won’t cancel it? Is it because it’s pending? Once it goes through will they cancel it?

Once it goes through, call again and have them cancel it.
Don’t dispute the charge, get connected to the fraud department and have them cancel it and probably get issued a new card number. (Assuming it is a fraudulent charge)

Was the card used at Target during the breach by any chance?

I had a suspicious charge pending on my credit card. The company that posted it actually caught it as suspicious and called me to verify. I called my credit card company and told them it happened. We cancelled the card and disputed the charge, even though the charge didn’t actually go through. I was told that if the charge was officially posted, they would send me some paperwork to fill out.

(The original company noted it as fraud and told me they wouldn’t complete the transaction.)

So in my case, at least, I was able to dispute and cancel a pending charge.

There is no liability for anyone whose credit card was compromised by the Target breach. If a thief only has control of the credit card number and not the physical card itself, the card owner has no liability.

Debit card protection is not so secure.

I’m not clear here. Did your wife actually book the vacation, did your wife discover the booking, or did you see something that said your wife booked the vacation and she said she didn’t know anything about it?

She booked it without discussing it with me, lol. She had a flyer faxed to her it looks sketchy like not professional at all, I’m worried it’s a scam, i googled the name and there where a number of complaints. This is not credit card fraud (not yet anyway) cause she booked it I just want to cancel it, but the credit card company won’t cancel it cause it’s a pending transaction

The first thing the two of you should do is call the “travel agency” back and cancel. If that doesn’t work then you can call the credit card company.

I did call the credit card company and they said we cannot cancel a pending transaction and gave no more info, I thought you could cancel any payment you want without reason that’s what I read doing some research, I guess I will call them back tomorrow and ask if once it goes through I can than cancel

When the charge actually goes through, then you will be able to dispute it. You must notify the company that sold it to you that you do not want the trip. Send an email or a FAX so you have proof of notifying them. They might withdraw the charge rather than getting a dispute. Disputes are held against you if you re a merchant so most will settle amicably and issue a refund. If not, you will just have to go through the dispute procedure. I believe there is a law that gives you 72 hours to change your mind on any contract, so sooner is better.

You cannot “cancel” a credit card transaction by calling the credit card company. You can dispute a charge if:

  1. you did not authorize the charge (the merchant charged your card without your permission, or your card information was used fraudulently by a third party)
  2. You did not receive the services or goods promised

But you cannot use the dispute process just because you changed your mind.

Your first move has to be with the people where your wife made the travel booking and ask them to cancel it. However, be aware that they may have a policy of nonrefundable reservations. This is very common in travel–all the airlines do this unless you pay a premium for a refundable ticket.

This is incorrect. Many states have laws that require a 72-hour cancellation of contracts made by salesmen in your own home to protect people against aggressive door-to-door salesmen. Some states have similar laws for very specific types of contracts. But there is no blanket law that allows cancellation of any type of contract within 72 hours.
