Credit Where Credit Is Due

Three people who averted a tragedy yesterday deserve to be pointed out:

As a fair proportion of the board now knows, OpalCat, who maintains the independent but related Teeming Millions Home Page, is bipolar, supposedly controlled by her medications, and yesterday was struck by severe depression and irrationality. The gory details are elsewhere on the board, and I refuse to link to them. I only bring the situation up to ensure everybody knows what a fine job of crisis intervention three people did:

First, Canthearya posted an alert to TubaDiva (Jenny) in About This Message Board, when Opal’s posts made clear what was happening to her. For what happened next, I’ll let Melin tell the story:

So I think we all owe a vote of thanks to Canthearya, Melin, and TubaDiva, and of course Opal’s husband UndeadDude.

Oh wow, I’ve got chills down my spine. Words are inadequate. You guys are so awesome.

Proof that this isn’t “just a message board”. Thank you for caring enough to help, all of you. Thank you for being wonderful people, not just letters on a monitor.

Bravo! Bravo!

It’s so great to know that this is a community that takes care of each other. Makes me proud and glad to be a part of it.

Mr. K’s Link of the Month:

What is John Kricfalusi (“Ren and Stimpy”) doing these days?

The Goddamn George Liquor Program

You are all true friends, and you deserve a lot of credit. The collective karma of this board has increased by several percentage points, thanks to your actions. Three cheers for everybody listed above, and a speedy recovery to OpalCat.

An infinite number of rednecks in an infinite number of pickup trucks shooting an infinite number of shotguns at an infinite number of road signs will eventually produce all the world’s great works of literature in Braille.

great work, guys. it’s always reassuring to see that people care about each other, even in cyber-space.
