I’ve always known the group who performed “Fortunate Son” and “Up Around the Bend” and so forth, as Creedence Clearwater Revival. Now all of a sudden, DJs are identifying them as Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Is this one of those contractual things, where one person (Fogerty?) owns the rights to the name, so their music has to be performed/played under a different name?
Revisited is a sham. It’s CCR without Fogerty, which is like Christianity without Jesus.
Are you sure it was really Creedence Clearwater Revival, or was it a newer live version of one of their songs? Apparently CCRevival and CCRevisited are two different bands. The bassist and drummer of the former band formed the latter band, and have been performing the old CCRevival songs live. They also have a CD out, which seems likely to be what you heard on the radio.
To say that Stu Cook and Doug Clifford of Revisited and John Fogerty have a disagreement is a bit of an understatement.
That was one of the nastiest divorces in rock history. I’m not sure if it has all been straightened out, but I believe that John Fogerty has to pay royalties to Cook and Clifford whenever he peforms one of his old CCR songs, songs which he wrote.
When Clifford, Cook, and Fogerty’s late brother Tom tired of his total rule over CCR, they demanded to write some songs on the last CCR album. If you listen to the songs the other guys wrote, you will understand why John Fogerty wanted to run the whole show.
No, I didn’t hear newer live versions; didn’t know there were such things. I heard “Revisited” in reference to the classic singles. Thank you for the info, though! Ouch.
