Creep - Excellent scary movie

This was exactly my reaction as well.

Me too!

What is a good scary movie with zero jump scares?

I watched the Babadook, and the Babadook was scary, but the whining kid and stupid mom were really annoying, so I didn’t enjoy it as much. I was kind of actively rooting for the Babadook to eat the mom, at the very least.

Well…
It was Benadryl from the killer’s own medicine cabinet.

I have to say I don’t think the kind of subtext you’re talking about is actually there. I think not taking the evidence and not going immediately are just typical of people being not-so-smart in scary movies.
It’s streaming in the US, at least where I am.

I’ve seen cases before where I couldn’t find a movie on streaming for some reason but others could provide me a direct link to it. Does this work?

I’ve seen Oculus and it is indeed very good. The others I have read about and for one reason or another thought they sounded cheesy. But your recommendation is enough for me to give them a try, starting with AASB.

Thanks for the suggestion. My son and I watched this last night. I liked this one better than most of the horror I’ve watched this year, excluding The Signal. I’m now going to work my way down Ellis Dee’s list.

I loved both Oculus and The Babadook. The latter is already in my collection. As far as my sidetrack question goes… anyone seen Lake Mungo? I have it recorded but haven’t watched it, and most of the buzz on the IMDb boards seems to think it’s another underrated classic.

For comparison on tastes, I enjoyed The Babadook and The Signal, but both just barely missed my cutoff point for “enjoyed it enough to recommend.” My attention started to wander a bit during both of them, but I still gave them both a solid 3 out of 5 stars on Netflix. (3 = “I liked it”)

Looking forward to Creep, but it’s not yet available on Netflix DVD.

EDIT: Movies I recently saw and did NOT like: ABC’s of Death (hated; turned it off halfway through), The Pyramid (kind of liked it but it’s terrible) and Violet & Daisy (just barely watchable through the end despite loving all three leads in other things.)

Did not like it at all and gave it 2 stars on netflix.

Full of crappy jump scares and a predictable plot combined with a dumb victim. Why didn’t he take the videos to the police?

Really not a good movie at all.

I saw this last night, and I didn’t like it. I tend to find Mark Duplass and his creative efforts to be annoying and, well, stupid. My attitude toward the guy is at least partially just a matter of personal taste rather than pure objective assessment, and he (and the way he is overrated by the few reviewers whom I’ve seen mention him) bothers me enough that I can’t get a grasp on how much of my dislike is aesthetically justified.

However, The One I Love, which he did with Elizabeth Moss, was smart, subtle, well-acted and had a nifty plot that also had something meaningful to say about the human condition. And it was a horror movie several calibers above Creep, IMO (although the dialogue suffered at points).

I think “underrated classic” is a very apt description for Lake Mungo. It also seems to be a love it or hate it type of thing; I loved it. Keep in mind it’s very slow moving and not a lot “happens” for the majority of the film, but the payoff . . . definitely worth it. Big time. IIRC the sound quality isn’t great and the cast is Australian so if you have a hard time with accents or with hearing in general you might want to watch with cc on.

I watched this tonight. I enjoyed it, although I wonder how many more “found footage” films can be made. That being said, I think this one was done pretty well. I also wouldn’t really label it as comedy. I’m a big fan of dark comedy but I didn’t really get much of a comedy feel from it.
I’ll watch most anything that either of the Duplass brothers are involved in. Everything they do may not be great, but at least it’s usually interesting.

Man, five minutes into this movie and I was rooting for the kid to die. I don’t know if we were supposed to hate him and sympathize with the mom, but I just wanted her to beat him senseless.

It is intentional and integral to the story that the kid is annoying.

Just want to make sure it’s clear that the mom was the babadook.

Just watched “Creep” last night and checked the closet for Peachfuzz. (shudders)

Anything supernatural puts me to sleep. This was a great new twist on found footage films and craigslist jobs. Best to check out the address online before you go:D

Only thing I didn’t like was:

When Aaron calls the cops, he really doesn’t tell them as much as he should have. I would’ve drove straight to the police, tell them about filming him, showed them the video and said he attacked me.

And to Babdook fans:

No, the mother is not the Babadook, it is an allegory of denial. Since mom and son have never even discussed the death of his father the night he was born, the babadook appears. Since that can never come to fruition, the Babadook stays with you. He’s there to remind you of guilt.

I watched Creep over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend it!
