Cremation - Can you fill an hour glass with ash?

I heard somewhere that someone had his cremated remains put into an hour glass (instead of sand), so his family could turn him over …“He was a lazy sod all his life, now we can watch him work”… from time to time and watch him trickle through.

Is this true? Is it technically possible? If I requested that this happen in my will, what are the chances?

And would my family want one BIG hour glass, or a set of 3 minute egg timers - one each?

As close as I’ll get to immortality?

I don’t think ashes would flow like clean sand would. Ashes…er, clump.

Human ashes from a professional crematorium - “cremains” - would, indeed, flow smoothly. They are very fine, very dry, and are more like dust than what you get out of a typical fireplace.

It would be a hell of big egg timer, though - when we got my sister back there were about 3 pounds worth.

Mmmmmm… Jumbo eggs…
