And I mean in your lifetime- such as ones you have seen or heard of in radio broadcasts. That means I can’t place Fred Trueman or Ray Lindwall in the list.
I’ll throw in ten but not in any order- just fine fast bowlers. And to try and explain a little more I’ll include express, fast/ medium an medium fast. In my list I have excluded anyone who has had a suspect action.
Again, no specific order.
John Snow- skillful and aggressive.
Dennis Lillee
Richard Hadlee
Wasim Akram
Joel Garner
Malcolm Marshall
Michael Holding
Andy Roberts
Curtly Ambrose
10 Glenn McGrath
And I couldn’t find room for Peter Pollock, Waqar Younis or Alan Donald.
You couldn’t find room for Imran Khan??? Maybe it’s the time and place I was growing up in (late 70s to late 89s in Pakistan) but he was absolutely up there with the very best for a good ten years.
Imran Khan is certainly right up there but it got to the pint of who do you leave out to put him in? Just looking at his stats he was certainly far better than I recalled.
I think Jimmy Anderson is at the bottom of what I’d consider “fast”, speed and bounce is not his main weapon, but watching him in his prime with the ball on a string *and *at pace, has been a pleasure.
I was only two when John Snow played his last game, so I’ll drop him off my list on ‘in my lifetime’ disqualification. And I think I’ll drop Andy Roberts as well. No logic, just I don’t have as strong an impression of him as some of the other Windies bowlers.
That frees up a spot for Imran Khan, and I’ll give the last spot to Allan Donald by a nose over Dale Steyn. I’d love to give a spot to Jeff Thomson, my favourite quick of the 70’s and 80’s, but I can’t justify leaving anyone else out for him.
