Well the Group A qualifiers are decided (although the order remains to be seen). Group B remains up in the air (although it would be amazing if India failed to qualify). ENgland v West Indies on THursday looks crucial.
My favorite for the title is Australia, they are still the best team, admittedly not been tested yet, but they are the only ones who don’t have potentially fatal flaws.
Pakistan is the other team that would worry everyone, they can implode at anytime, but they can also explode and if and when they do you are truly fucked as SA can attest…Trent Bridge 2009.
Another unconvincing win by Australia over Canada. That pace attack looked very one dimensional in the game- they are missing someone of the calibre of McGrath (okay, that won’t happen again soon) or the variety of Bracken.
Ponting is a passenger. AK84, I do not share your confidence I’m afraid.
This England-Windies game has been pretty unbelievable. Chasing 244, the Windies get off to a great start 91-2 in the 12th over and look to be cruising. They’ve been promoting lower order hitters up the order. Then England start getting wickets. Currently 119 for 5 in the 22nd over. England have just sent down 19 or 20 consecutive dot balls. Sarwan is in to right the ship.
If England lose, they are out. Even if they win, they need results elsewhere to go in their favour. How come all of England’s games have been eventful? Maybe it’s just because they’re not a very good ODI side.
Forgot to mention that England got their wickets with Tredwell and Bopara. I don’t think Tredwell has played all tournament until today. Bopara is a bit part bowler, pressed into action because of the injuries and illness that have struck the England side.
Will take a miracle for England to stay in the tournament now. Only themselves to blame really. From the positions that they were in during the games against Ireland and india, they should have won and this game would be a dead rubber for them.
Well done to the Windies and best of luck for the rest of the tournament to everyone else. Am eating a large amount of humble pie now - after my first comment on this thread.
Unfuckingbelievable. Taken the wickets required and England hang in to the tournament. Now for SA to lose against Bangladesh and for it all to have been for nothing anyway.
Unbelievable. Some teams snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Some do the reverse. England are doing both, in the same [del]tournament[/del] [del]match[/del] innings.
There is a suggestion on Cricinfo that Sarwan came in down the order because he was in the toilet when the wicket fell and he was due to go in. Given how steady he was, I wonder if that might have swung the game the other way if he’d come in when he was supposed to and supported the more able hitters rather than being left with the tail?
This reminds me of the rugby match that was described as being “full of thud and blunder”. One for the history books. West Indies must be kicking themselves.
