I spent the first 20 years of my life in the east end of Glasgow and although you often hear about how bad it is I honestly never experienced any problems. Well I suppose there was the time I was chased through Cranhill by a gang of neds and had to get a petrol station owner to lock the doors behind me to keep them out. They then proceeded to attempt to smash the windows with their pool cues and, being unsuccessful in this, resorted to prowling around outside waiting for me to emerge.
That was an isolated incident though - I wouldn’t expect a visitor to the city to be in any of the areas where all of this crime is presumably taking place. Mind you that’s part of the problem with Glasgow isn’t it? Lots of nice work has been done to revitalise the centre but for large parts of the rest of the city it’s still a very different story.
As Groundskeeper Willie said;
Brothers and sisters are natural enemies. Like Englishmen and Scots! Or Welshmen and Scots! Or Japanese and Scots! Or Scots and other Scots! Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!
Ya sure all those numbers aren’t Ranger on Celt or Celt on Ranger violence? I bet if you factor that out, there is less crime than some deserted islands.
