Crime in Richmond VA

Would it be ok to leave a car in a public lot in Richmond VA (the Downtown area - Broad street and 5th) overnight? Is it safe to walk around at night in this area? Also, is there a nice park to have a stroll within walking distance?

Thanks!

Um…what kind of car is it? If it’s a nice car, I wouldn’t recommend it. If it’s a jalopy and it doesn’t look like you’ve got anything fancy inside, then it will probably make it. I would probably look for a covered garage if I absolutely had to leave a car downtown overnight, though.

Closest park would be Capitol Square Park, which is on Ninth Street (pretty sure it has a Broad Street entrance). It’s a great park for eating lunch during the middle of the day, and the state capitol is there.

Is it safe for walking at night? Well, I walk at night all the time. Even in the dangerous parts. Is it wise? No, it’s not. Then again, I wouldn’t recommend walking at night in any major city. But I’ve never had any problems (knock on wood).

Just took a walk around Capitol Sq Park and the Canal walk. Beautiful! Thanks!

I park down on 19th in Shockoe Bottom all the time and have never had a problem - not even drunks peeing on my bumper. The area you’re talking about is no worse than that.
