Was that the one with John Corabi? I thought it was a decent album, but it wasn’t a Crue record. I mean that in the nicest possible way. It’s like how Van Halen III was a good album, but Gary Cherone didn’t make it a real Van Halen record.
Maybe I’m “no true Scotsman”-ing the artists above. Get off my lawn.
Yes! a great return for Rush as a guitar-anchored band, after Geddy’s "interesting-but-this-isn’t-“RUSH” keyboard explorations on “Power Windows” and “Hold Your Fire”. Opening with “Show Don’t Tell” & “Chain Lightning”, Alex is back@the forefront; I especially loved “Anagram (For Mongo)” too!
“Anagram (for Mongo)” is my favorite song on that album. Very creative lyrics and chord changes, too; chances are, out of all their songs (that I’ve heard) it is probably the hardest to play, and yet it sounds so simple.
So many good and interesting ideas! Thanks to you all, I have a lot to listen to.
I throw my hat into the ring with Carolyne Mas, her live album “Mas Hysteria” is great, the B-side has a fantastic song titled “Sittin In The Dark” that was quite popular in Berlin in the 80s but that no one seems to know today. Great crescendo: Carolyne Mas Sittin in the dark - YouTube (you will notice that most of the comments are in German. Weird she made it there for a while but nowhere else it seems. A pity)

That’s one of the greatest quirks about Rush - so many of their songs “sound” simple but always have some complex chords compliments of Alex. An even greater under-rated album of theirs was “Grace Under Pressure”; I think alot of even dedicated Rush fans [what other kind IS there?!] misunderstood it OR didn’t get the new musical territory they were exploring, especially on a song like “Kid Gloves”, my fave from GUP.
