Cringe! (plus Discourse characters)

My musical tastes are eclectic, and my iPod is on Shuffle. One song might be Green Day, and the next might be Johnny Cash. Just now, this made me cringe in two ways.

The song was Carra Barra Wirra Canna, and its lyrics reference a derogatory term, starting with ‘P’, for small Black children. That’s Cringe Number 1.

The second cringeworthy thing about this song was that it was being sung by Rolf Harris. His conviction on charges of having sex with underage girls has tainted all of his songs; including Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport, Jake The Peg, and Two Little Boys. So cringe for the Carra Barra Wirra Canna lyrics, and cringe for the singer.

The spanish fly bbq sauce episode of The Cosby Show…yikes.

The line in The Dark Knight when Ledger’s Joker says to Batman “We’re going to be doing for a long time.”… Nope. Sad cringe.

Anything that comes from Joss Whedon at this point.
