Shayna, you can do it,but even if you slide, you still can do it eventually. Wish I was there, I would keep you too busy to smoke. That would rule out lots & lots of hot wild cave man sex cause you’d want to smoke afterwards
As far as Z & W are concerned they are basicaly the same. You take them the same 1 tab qd(every day) then after 3 days increase to 2tab bid(twice aday) then pick a date and stop, smoking normaly up to the stop date. Not everybody gets the feels the desire to smoke demish while starting on the drug, the purpose of the drug is to fight depression. The thought is that smoking is done because we are depressed. so as the drug is to replace cigs. The drug is only to be taken for three months. Its is like any other drug, or patch or anything else you use to HELP you stop smoking, it will only work if YOU WANT to stop. This info is from personal research and to PA’s that I work with. Good luck and Gods speed to you all.
Go for it, guys! I’ve never smoked, but it’s a big thing in my family so I know what you’re going through. If all else fails, get some of those little stick pretzels - they kind of look like cigarettes :)…anyways, good luck and enjoy all the things that you’ll get back by not smoking!
Why doesn’t everyone who is quitting get their metters? I find it great to look at a post and see how much money I saved. Oh, and yes Drain, I look at the extra life too!
You can download the meter I am by CLICKING HERE if you have Windows. There are other meters for different platforms listed RIGHT HERE as well.
So everyone join in the Great SDMB Smoke-out! We all know that smoking is ignorant, so let’s stamp out that ignorance!!
Yer pal,
Satan

TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:
Three weeks, 20 hours, 9 minutes and 13 seconds.
873 cigarettes not smoked, saving $109.20.
Life saved: 3 days, 45 minutes.
Wow, Wally. What inspirational words. You’re so right - we get past cravings in all sorts of situations now, so there’s no reason we can’t just continue doing so and get past it altogether. (I’m just going to keep telling myself that until I believe it - LOL). Thank you. I’m sure I will be coming back here to read your post again and again as a reminder that it can be done.
::looking into Wally’s eyes:: … smoking is dumb… smoking is dangerous… smoking is expensive… smoking is an addiction… I will stop this nonsensical habit now!
Thank you also, zyada, handy, Mr Bear, Quadzilla and Satan.
handy, if you were here… I might have to spank you. Hehehe.
Mr Bear, thanks for the information on Zyban. I want to quit more this time than I ever have before. But for some reason the Zyban has had zero effect on my desire for a cigarette. Go figure. I’m still gonna quit tomorrow (well, by the end of tonight). I’ll stay on the Zyban for at least a month and maybe it’ll start taking the edge off once I’m not inhaling any more of this poison.
Satan, thanks for the link to the counter. I actually downloaded it the other night and I definitely plan on using it. Seeing your stats in all your replies has been one of the things that has inspired me.
Okay, I wasn’t planning on it, but I’ve been thnking about it lately. So, as long as we’re all being supportin=ve of each other…what the hell!
I’ll quit. Satan, I will download that meter of yours. I will participate in the smoke-out. Just don’t be too hard on me if I don’t make it, okay?
YAY Jeannie! It ain’t gonna be easy, girlfriend, but I’m with you all the way. E-mail me if you want… Catgirl61@excite.com, or if that’s full (it might be - LOL) try Shayna61@yahoo.com.
Good luck to us all. Tomorrow’s just a few hours away - Yikes!
It’s hard to quit smoking but it can be done. Take it one day at a time (cliché but true).
Good Luck you guys! Keep us posted on how it’s doing. I’m sure all your fellow dopers be here to give you encouragement.
Here it is, Monday, your first(hopefully) smoke free day. Good luck to both of you, and just take one day at a time.
Just last week I got in the mail the addendum to my life insurance policy changing my status from tobacco to non tobacco.
It’s hard. I still want to smoke sometimes. But it is definitely worth it.
My friend at work went 3 months and then started smoking again. He drinks beer with the neighbor who still smoked, and taunted him with it. Eventually, he failed, and started smoking again. The lesson is, you may have to lose some friends in order to sucessfully quit. I don’t have any, so I was able to quit : ).
Best wishes to anyone that is quitting, I can’t imagine anyone being sorry they did.
One year, four months, 14 hours, 9 minutes and 44 seconds. 16990 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2,298.09. Life saved: 8 weeks, 2 days, 23 hours, 50 minutes.
hang tough, all you guys and gals. even i’ll be rooting for ya! //classical irony //
it took my mom 2 tries to truly kick the weed. she managed to stop cold turkey on her own for several months, but a small panic crisis knocked her off the wagon. eventually she hooked up with a Stop Smoking clinic sponsored by her workplace (which just happened to be a hospital). that seemed to give her the extra “whatever” that got her off and kept her off.
morals of the story:
-
grab anything nearby that looks like it’ll provide some extra support and/or encouragement (but, hey, you’re posting here, you were already smart enough to figure most of that out). a RL support group, if something’s close by, should help right along with all your on-line buddies cheering for you.
-
DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP FOR SLIPS! nicotine addiction is supposedly one of the worst to overcome. even if you stumble and fall, it’s not failure–it’s a temporary setback. pick 'em up and move 'em on out again.
-
{bad news alert} yes, you will be hell on wheels to live/get along with for a while. so share the reason with everyone around you. it may help them be a little more understanding. at the least, it will reinforce your mind-set if you keep telling people that you’re quitting.
best of luck to everyone. remember…i’ll be watching. you have been warned.
You can do it! It isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible!
One thing that helped me (9 months now) was: the craving will pass whether you smoke or not… make the right choice.
I’m rooting for you!
Thank you so, so much Grace, pipefitter, Jvanhorn, lachesis and Sassy.
Jvan, those are most impressive stats you have there! I sure hope to be able to post the same thing some day.
All the good luck wishes and positive feedback you guys are giving us here is really helping me get through the day today. Thanks again!
