When did the OP ever state that she got migraines? Only thing I see is where she said she got “low-level headaches” from it. An Advil or something else should help w/ that.
I do sympathize w/ the OP though… I hate being forced to smell anything, especially at work but really anyplace.
I’d like to know this as well. I assumed pot from the way she mentioned “board rules” and since it’s not that, I’m curious as to what it could be.
As a fellow sufferer of these low-level headaches from strong odors, I can say that Advil or any other pain reliever may help for the short term, but the headache won’t stop until the smell does.
Having looked up Scentsy on Wikipedia, I have to wonder if Grandboss bought the thing from another employee and doesn’t want to hurt the employee’s feelings by taking it home. She may also have a lousy sense of smell and may not realize that the scent is too much for the area. Or she likes the smell and assumes that everyone else does, too.
It doesn’t matter if you like the smell (most smells that give me a a headache I love), when someone says it is bothering them, it’s not because they don’t like it, it’s because it is MAKING THEM ILL (in my case, I start sneezing, get running eyes then get a warning headache followed by an inability to breathe).
I am so sick of people getting offended when I tell them they are slowly killing me.
Thanks. I don’t mind taking an Advil for the occasional cramp or headache, but I don’t want to be taking them every damn day. Yanno? And she does like the smell and assumes that if she likes something then of course everyone does, but I don’t think it’s another co-worker who sold it, as I’m pretty sure she’s started selling them herself.
If she’s selling them herself, this may actually be the way to get her to remove it. Some companies have policies restricting outside sales in the workplace, and if she’s a manager, she can be perceived as using her position to generate sales. Find out (discreetly!) if such a policy exists at your company and make a copy of it.
I’m allergic to perfume, so I sympathize. Not a big problem in Silicon Valley, at least, though I had to leave one conference room and stand in the hall when one woman was wearing too much one day. (She never had before, so I didn’t say anything.) My eyes water so much when exposed to too much perfume that I’m quite incapacitated.
Besides the medical documentation, does a face mask (like they wear in China to guard against pollution) work?
Both your stomach and your cardiovascular system will be happier if you don’t; prolonged NSAID usage is not a great idea if there are other options. As a response to headaches caused by a harmful stimuli, removing that stimuli is a much more reasonable option.
I had never heard of Scentsy before this thread, but I went to the county fair yesterday and there was a booth selling them, and just walking past them almost made me vomit. This was in a big, well-ventilated building with the doors open on both ends, so it gave me a whole new layer of sympathy for purplehorseshoe. Having to endure this in an enclosed office environment would brought me to the breaking point long before this. Ghastly.
