Depends… No, not that kind but I am getting pretty old…
How do you tell the deer to stay out of your garden, they clear an 8 foot fence with ease.
They are not getting used to people here and Zeus chases them. They are plenty wary…
Wasting disease is heading this way from Eastern AR. Keeping them around and watching them is one way to stop the disease before it gets them all.
They are not really that dangerous to humans like big cats, bears, wolves & coyotes.
They need culling. Did you notice the one with the left rear leg that has been cut off? Probably a sickle mower that was cutting hay. Probably what happened to his right horn also. I guess I could get a neighbor to kill him for his own good but a little help seems a better thing right now to me.
Zeus is a rescue and he has a messed up left hip and can’t do what a lot of dogs can but I feed him and don’t think about putting him down. I am making his life as good as I can. Costs a little more but he is worth it.
We have 7 cats right now, just lost one to cancer. All but the oldest are/were rescues, feral trapped, injured, dumped, etc…
Just read about a falcon that is being rehabilitated and soon to be released… Should have just let it die in the wild?
The deer around here much prefer their natural food and don’t come into the corn that is like rocks until there is nothing else to eat.
The locals do not hunt our little local herd, they have other places to hunt. We are too populated for much hunting. Mostly the poachers and jack light scum. I have not hunted for sport or food for many years.
So, in general your points are good and necessary but not everywhere or all the time.
Oh, we also feed the birds… We like having them around. The really dumb ones the cats get but the birds are getting smarter each generation. We also feed the cats so they are not real serious about hunting birds.
YMMV
