IE 6 SP1 recently started to behave strangely in that, when I try to save a web page (and it doesn’t matter which page) by selecting “Save As …”, all IE windows would immediately close. No delay, no error message.
More strangely still, Firefox is also afflicted - “Save Page As …” gives a blank error dialog with the title: “The filepicker was unexpectedly closed by Windows.” After closing it, the browser no longer responds.
As an attempted quick fix I upgraded to IE 7 beta 3, but this has the same problem as IE 6 SP1.
The only suspect I could think of was GetRight (given that it messed around with the save dialogs), but none of changing settings, uninstalling it and reinstalling it solved the problem.
I would guess that the problem is at the OS level rather than the browser level, but that doesn’t help me very much. Has anyone got any ideas?
