I would like to see a picture of the cheapest apartment in the world.
By “apartment,” I mean:
[ul]
[li]It has to be its own domicile; so a room that you found that’s $75 per month in a house shared with 15 other housemates doesn’t count.[/li][li]No shared facilities; it must have its own kitchen (or approximation thereof), commode, and shower/bath.[/li][li]No officially-unoccupied buildings being used as squats.[/li][li]No rooms in hostels; the apartment must have walls separating it from the other tenants.[/li][/ul]
The cheapest apartment I’ve ever seen was a converted hotel room (the hotel had been a cheap, roadside motel where passing truckers/transients/etc. would stay) with a single bed, teeny-stove, and a shower, in an area that was maybe 100 square feet. Just down the road from Springfield, Illinois, $150 per month, utilities paid, as of 2006.
And as an aside- what major world city has the most affordable rents? I’m going to guess Mumbai, based on absolutely no reason at all.
