Crowning moments of awesome in rock

Post snipped

A band called Sanctuary did a cover of that song that absolutely kills.

Slee

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Little Wing (live).

There are multiple moments of awesome but the Crowning Moment comes at 5:27. The next several notes are transcendent.

Lindsey Buckingham performing, “I’m So Afraid” on the DVD, “The Dance”. The whole thing, really, but if you have to cut it down, I suppose starting around 4:38 to the end. Decades of work and experience distilled into ~8 minutes of pure awesome.

Jump to 3:48

You REALLY should watch the whole thing

You know, that solo IS awesome. It’s a journey, a story, a roller-coaster ride. Just wonderful.

Here’s a live performance:

I love Pink floyd- ‘Money’ the moment when the sax solo ends and the guitar takes over. Yeah!

In a similar vein, a song from my longtime favourite band, The Hives: Main Offender. I love guitar sound of the first bars and that wild tremolo picking!
(Sorry about the no-vocals version, youtube doesn’t have the studio version with non-crap audio.)

The Hives first CD in the States, Veni Vidi Vicious, is great. I used to play Hate to Say I Told You So in an earlier incarnation of my band. Rockin’ stuff.

Close,but this is the lyric-

now Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, aww he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
'came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan

The 2 seconds of silence in Fugazi’s “Waiting Room” intro.

Oops.

I’m surprised we haven’t hit on Great Gig In The Sky yet.

And to move the thread a bit into the future, how about…ahhh screw it, I was gonna chop these up and give you the best bits, but I can’t do it…
Sweet Child O Mine
Welcome To The Jungle
The opening to Thunderstruck

System of a Down

Prison Song

Cue it up at 1:55* and play loud.

Wow! Great timing…

A couple more non-musical, but still awesome moments from live albums…

Ah, ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know if you realize it,
But tonight you’re in for a special treat. No, no, no, not that, not that!
You only get that treat on full moons. besides, I know there’s a lot of young people here…
Last time it happened, grown men where weeping. policemen where turning in their badges.

“… Just remember, their motto is Protect And Serve.”

followed by some guy in the crowd shouting “the suggestion.”

This live version of Van Morrison’s Warm Love.

I’m glad, but not surprised, that Van Morrison gets so much credit in this thread. There are many special moments in his work that always amaze me, but my favorites are both the intro to Saint Dominic’s Preview and the very ending of the song, when the background singers close it with a beautifully stretched out “preeee - view”.

Another one is the way Van sings “I long just to hold you tight” in the first bridge of the studio version of “Caravan”. The exact part is here.

Metallica - Enter Sandman
Tool - Forty Six and 2 (you younger kids might remember it as the song from the Captain America trailer.)

Here’s some dude playing it on the piano. I just thought this was sort of cool.

I was thinking along the same lines, how about the often imitated:

"HELL-lo baaaaaAAAA-BAH! "…followed by some more silly lyrics.

Ooh Baby thatsa what I like!

I think those that is the greatest lyrical hookup in rock ever.
