Yes, even on roads where I figure only to go 3 or 4 blocks before having to stop or speed up. I use it almost as much as my gas pedal.
I only use cruise control on extremely long trips, when my right leg gets stiff. I turn it on for two minutes, wiggle my leg around, and then it’s off for the next two hours again.
I despise cruise control, and never use it. I want to feel how fast the car is going, and be in control of all parts of driving. I have put it on twice, but I couldn’t stand it for more than about five seconds, and took it off again.
I use it whenever I’m taking road trips. My family lives in Minnesota and Illinois, and I live in Green Bay… so there’s a bit of driving.
Yes, if traffic is light and I can see that I won’t need to turn it off in the next minute or so, I’ll fire it up.
My bike has cruise too, although it’s not quite as straightforward to use, and so I don’t use it as often. You have to keep a very light grip on the throttle or move your palm onto the bar end weight, otherwise you can accidentlly be holding the throttle open even more than the cruise control is trying to do. Still, it’s a nice break for the throttle hand during cross-country touring.
Use it all the time on long trips.
My current car doesn’t have it. I miss that feature almost as much as having a rear seat that folds down. Both of these things will be ones my next car better have.
Yeah, but there’s usually a resume button, so once you’re back up to speed, you can pop it back on in a second.
Me too, which means it falls into the “seldom” category.
All the time, including in places where it would seem to be inappropriate–e.g., wide, lightly trafficked city roads that have unreasonably low speed limits that I’d be likely to break otherwise, especially if they’re also in a high enforcement area.
I usually use it when I’m on a long expressway but I don’t travel on those all that often.
Depends on the car. I have a Maxima with a 3.5-liter engine and a six-speed manual transmission. I have never had to shift while using cruise control.
Well, there is that too, ditto for Dad’s turbo diesel Saab.
Never. Never will, either, unless I’m test-driving a new car, just to make sure that it works so I can never use it.
Had one stick on me when I was in high school, and the car kept accelerating. The driver had to pretty much stand on the brakes to get it stopped.
I’ll bet you were Gesturing Wildly back then.
Use it as often as possible. Back when I had a longer commute, I’d set it to 67 and stay in the slow lane, relaxing.
Love my cruise control. Use it almost always, even in heavy traffic (usually I’m doing the reverse commute so everybody’s doing about 5 mph over the limit). When traffic is really thick my right foot hovers about 1/8" over over the brake pedal. This sounds fatiguing, but isn’t - and it keeps me alert. And I can hit the brake considerably faster than if my foot were pressing on the gas pedal.
I think it’s one of the reasons that my gas mileage is at least 2 mpg over the EPA predictions.
