Cruise diary - my October vacation

That’s exactly why we cruise out of Baltimore, but we’ve done the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, and now New England/Canada. I would like to go to Bermuda again, but if we want to go anywhere else, we’ve got to fly or drive.

Sounds awesome. I could use a cruise badly. My fiancee and I decided on Vegas instead though, so I’ll have to wait until next year!

curse of the narrows is the book i have of the halifax explosion. there is a special bond between boston and halifax from that incident.

the halifax museum is really fantastic and very, very well done.

great vacation!

I did South America last year on Holland America. Used frequent traveler miles to get to Buenos Aires and from Santiago. We’ve had good luck booking cruises with vacationstogo.com.

We flew from Oakland to Fort Lauderdale on Southwest, no baggage charges. You only need one suitcase a piece - just be prepared to use their laundry service or wash stuff out.
The QE2 had washing machines 37 years ago, but no ship has them any more.
If you feel you must wear a tux to the formal dinner, you might need more.A jacket was plenty for me.

As for cruise lines, we used NCL twice in Europe, and Holland America through the Canal, and found Holland America far superior. We used Princess for Alaska, and were happy with them, but that was a while ago so I can’t be sure they are still good.

Actually, Princess has laundry rooms on most decks with coin machines. When my mom and I did our long cruise, we’d wash some items in our cabin and hang them to dry, but about halfway thru the trip, we put together a load or 2 and used the machines.

We’d flown from Dulles to London on Icelandair, and at the time, they allowed two 50# bags per person. It’s since dropped to a single free 50# bag. From my experience, you can manage for 2 weeks with a single bag, but beyond that, it’s laundry time!
