Crushing Glass?

I am making glass tiles out of old wine bottles. I have the kilm, and the bottles, know i need to know what the best way to crush the glass. The smaller the better.

Thanks for the help:D

How fine and how many bottles? I’m thinking a mortar and pestle (or maybe a hammer would work better then a pestle) would do the job. Maybe setting it in a clear plastic bag and then using your free hand to hold the bag around your arm to contain the mess.

When I’ve seen mosaics being made, they’ve generally wrapped the glass/ceramic in a couple of layers of teatowel, then hit it gently with a hammer to make large shards and then more forcefully with a larger weight to break the shards down…

Just a thought

A ball mill would be ideal. A concrete or mortar mixer could work. If you have a slab roller ( making assumptions you might be a potter) it too could be pressed into service, given some initial size reduction.
Use lung and hearing protection- the blender guy will die a horrible death.
