“Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails makes me tear up. It’s so beautiful and sad. The Johnny Cash version tears me up a little more since he is at the end of his life and so the words have more meaning for me.

What a brilliant song. It makes me sad and angry and then happy that she’s free in some sense at the end.
“Top of the World” by the Dixie Chicks. It’s from the point of view of a man who realizes too late that he broke his wife’s spirit and the regret he feels about it.
I can’t believe no one thought of Whiskey Lullaby, a duet by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. I’m ashamed that I didn’t think of it earlier either.
Other Country songs I forgot to mention earlier are He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones, Holy Water by Big and Rich, The Bed by Gretchen Wilson, and If You Don’t Wanna Love Me by Cowboy Troy.
In the country vein I’d say There Stand’s the Glass by Webb Pierce.
