I do IT support for a living. At a previous job, my supervisor and I put together an actual plan that we called “What You Do If I’m Hit By A Bus”. It had a lot of info about our systems, and much of it revolved around where backups were, what was on the backups, and how to retrieve the data. (Back then we would back stuff up to rotating LTO tapes.) We kept some tapes at a bank, some at our houses, and the long-term archives at Iron Mountain. (The key was to have them physically apart from each other in case of a disaster destroying things, like a fire, or earthquake, or tsunami, or terrorist attack, you actually have to consider the possibility of really bad stuff like that.)
