Cryptoquip puzzle

In the newspaper there is a daily cryptogram puzzle, it is a simple letter for letter substitution code. The answer for each puzzle appears the next day, except puzzles on Sundays, for which the answer is not given until the next week. I have tried today’s puzzle several times and can’t get an answer. Instead of being patient and waiting a week, I’ve decided to see if anyone here could answer it. Here’s the puzzle:

I’m inclined to think that part of the puzzle may have been printed wrong, but there’s always the possibility that I’m just too stupid to figure it out.

I don’t think A=T. There are 2 words in the puzzle that start with ‘A’ where this creates problems - ‘AC’ & ‘AS’.
If A=T, then ‘C’ must equal ‘O’ or ‘S’ must equal ‘O’, so then what is the other 2 letter word that starts with ‘T’?

I think they mean T=A.

I think some of the words were unintentionally broken. Try my edited version:

TK BCNURAWLE MLW REWV AC NMABS RU UCAWGATMZ BCRUZWE, T KTXRLW ASMA’E VMAWL-ULCBWEETGX.

How about this ???

IF COMPUTERS ARE USED TO MATCH UP POTENTIAL COUPLES, I FIGURE THAT’S DATER
– PROCESSING

Sternvogel and Achernar - Thanks for your assistance !!!

I think the confusion in that cryptoquote (besides the “broken” words) was that a lot of people (including me) were fooled into thinking that the last word was a famous person - Aristotle, Descartes, Krelman of Rigel 9 LOL

A home-groan pun.

A Java simple-substitution solver.

With the fixed version, it returned the correct Quip. With the broken one, it spat out this gem of wisdom:

IF COWPUTERS ARE US EM TO WATCH UP POT ENTIAL COUPLES, I FIGURE TH AT’S MATER-PROCESSING.

Which could easily be enough of a hint to take you the rest of the way.

What did we learn from all this? MOO!*
*Translation: Don’t use simple substitution for real applications. If you feel the urge to do so, hit yourself in the head with a LART until the urge passes.

Ha, glad to help, even though I was wrong.

Derleth, that solver is really good. Too good, I guess. It got the hardest cryptogram from one of my old GAMES magazines:

I’m very impressed by the solver, I’ve bookmarked it, forwarded the link to everyone I think might care, and, written to the author to say so, BUT, the email has bounced(!), guess you can’t get everything right.

WOW !!! I haven’t used that solver yet.
I was using one which requires you to enter letters you think you might know. (My first posting easily shows I was using an “old-fashioned” solver. - probably one step up from pen and paper).
However, when the correct crytoquote was shown, even that “old” program made it pretty easy to solve.

Thanks for the help everyone. That cyptogram solving program is nice.

:)Ok…I figured it out but since you had spaces in certain parts of your code it made it much more difficult.

The answer to your cryptoquip is:

IF COMPUTERS ARE US ED TO MATCH UP POT ENTIAL COUPLES I FIGURE TH AT’S DATER-PROCESSING.

If you have any more please post them. I enjoy these challenges!

Thanks:)

P.s. it wasn’t until after I registered and posted this that I noticed all the other posts…oh well. It was fun anyhow. I don’t need some stupit software to find the answers either.

jhenxxx, welcome to the boards.

Since this thread is so old, and has already been answered, I’m going to close it.

If you are interested in puzzles I suggest you check out our Game Room forum. If you want to talk about crytoquips, you might want to start a thread there.
