I’m rather underwhelmed. I don’t like the suit management system, especially in the middle of combat: just make it function keys, dammit! I’ve yet to find how to adjust the sensitivity of the pointer - I use a trackball rather than a mouse. Since you’re sneaking around a lot, the Prone key is rather important, so it needs to be an easier key to reach than Z; I suppose it will be easy enough to change. I’d like to see a pre-set for left-handed use - left hand on mouse / trackball, right hand on keyboard or joystick - and I’d like the mapping of the mouse / trackball be consistent between the game and the UI: the latter respects the reversal in Windows for left-handed use; the former doesn’t. Lastly (for the moment), the weapons you have seem to have an extraordinary lack of lethality.
I’m running at 1024x768 with Medium settings on a 2.6 GHz dual-core Pentium D with a NVidia 7600 GS
I just beat it. My feelings are basically the same as yours, and my specs too - I’ve got a 7600 GT, 1.8 GHz and about 2 gigs of RAM. I’m running it on medium at the same resolution you are. It looks OK, not great, and the FPS aren’t all that great at some points, but that’s my system’s fault, not the game’s - if I upgrade I’m sure it will run and look way better. I don’t have any problem with the suit controls. I dropped the “SCAR” and picked up the first AK I found and only used that - I thought it worked fine.
Overall I think the aliens are stupid and the idea of playing a bunch of levels where everything is frozen in ice and the same boring blue-gray color does not interest me. I don’t think I’ll be buying this.
I noticed shooting guys was taking a lot of bullets so I paid attention and shot them in the head…much more lethal. Also look for things that blow up to shoot. The explosions are rather good and get a good range (don’t be too close yourself). I was assaulting something or other and died on one or two tries spewing bullets all over then I saw the barrel, hit it with 1-2 shots and boom…all gone.
Also try to switch firing modes on your gun from single shot to full auto to knock-out dart. You have infinite knock-out darts. They won’t stay down forever (eventually they wake up again) but one shot drops them allowing you time to get around more easily. Darts have a SLOW reload though so not overpowered.
And the suit management is a bit of a pain in the heat of battle. I did not look to see if that could be bound to hotkeys though (I’d expect you should be able to as well as adjusting most controls in the game). I didn’t bother looking though so I cannot say for sure.
I liked it overall. Enemy AI was pretty smart. Visuals were great. Voice acting and story seemed good. Fun driving boats and jeeps.
Running at 1280x1024, All graphic settings on High with 4x AA using an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz and Nvidia 8800GTX (go ahead…be jealous ).
Cheesy cliched characters - obnoxious British guy, obnoxious black guy, tough Hispanic guy, and firm, in-control, straight-edged black authority figure a-la Dennis Haysbert. Really cheesy-assed “futuristic suits.” Much too similar to Far Cry, and lacking that game’s entertaining meathead mercenaries and their frat-guy taunting.
The visuals were nice and it’s fun to knock down trees and buildings for a while, then it gets old. The gunplay was good and I liked the fact that you could see your own legs if you looked down - a bit of realism absent from too many games. Otherwise, I was disappointed, but not surprised - I’ve known for years that PC game developers are out of good ideas. Maybe Bioshock will prove me wrong - I’m downloading the demo of that right now.
Didn’t work – I get the (myriad, way too many, endless) logo screens, credits and so forth. I ran with the default settings, which were set pretty low. When the game (finally!) began, the graphics were very messed up – blacks and greens only, it looked like a doppler radar and was unplayable.
Dual Xeon 5160s (woodcrest) 3ghz, 4gb RAM, ATI x1950 PCIe
I had this exact same problem and I solved it by going to my 3D card’s control panel and turned the settings to “Let Application Decide” instead of “Use Global Settings.” Your control panel should have some kind of similar settings. Try downloading the latest driver, too.
I use the “Reflex” sight which give you a little red dot. I do…something (I forget) which gives me a sight line through the sight. I was able to get head shots on guys at range. Not easily but I could do it.
I’m not sure why all the ambivalence towards it, I thought the demo was great. The sheer number of ways to approach each situation is great.
Best moment so far is using dual silenced pistols with laser pointers along with camo mode to kill about 10 guys hunting for me in the woods. Pop one in the back of the head and then recloak, the others freak out yelling and firing off into the brush where I just was. Last guy in the group gets the special treatment of being picked up bodily and punched in the face.
The suit shifting just took a little practice, I can easily shift on the go now.
