CSI - 2/15 - Open the damn box Grissom!

I was standing in line at a Grocery tonight and I saw Grissom on the cover of some Entertainment Magazine X - and the byline said: Grissom reveals true feelings for Sara… Well that is all well and good but I really want to see what is in the damn box! I’m sure it is some sort of miniature something but what? I can’t wait to see!

Any Ideas?

I, too, would like him to open the box. But the TV sweeps still have another week and a half to go!

Don’t be surprised if they drag it out until the 22nd.

I haven’t watched CSI in like, a year, but what’s this box you guys speak of?

Who was the actor playing the son of the train guy?

Basically:

This season there is a story arc involving a serial killer who leaves behind exact miniatures of the crime scene.

Grissom went on sabbatical to teach for a month, and there was a big box addressed to him sitting on his desk.

It was a mini crime scene. The box was opened tonight.

Did I miss the true feelings reveal part?

Best CSI I’ve seen in a while.

I haven’t seen it in ages either, but I saw a preview where it looked like Gil was leaving Las Vegas forever but he seems to still be on the show. What gives?

Someone explained in an earlier thread, but Grissom left for 4 weeks to teach at a university. In real life William Peterson was doing a play, so that’s how they wrote him out for a few episodes.

I’m wondering why they bothered have the cop in the apartment in the first place?

Just put a dummy on the couch; it would have matched the model, and not put the cop at risk. It didn’t matter if anyone was there or not: whoever shows up, you arrest.

But that flaw aside, it was a pretty good episode.

When Harry Groener’s name came up in the credits I shrieked, “The Mayor!” and did a little fist pump.

On a shallow note, the entire cast looked really good tonight, with the exception of Marg, whose face is looking increasingly, well, sculpted. I like the idea of the Miniature Killer because I love small things – dollhouses, dioramas, etc. – and I really love how they shoot the team’s examination of the mini-crime scenes.

I had an emergency - my wife needed to see the end of Greys Anatomy - and I didn’t move off the couch… So who the heck was the killer? Ws it indeed Ernie, or whas it his son…last I saw the son was being questioned in the intero room. What happened?

The case is still open. Ernie had a bunch of foster kids (more than 10) who he cared for more than his own fresh and blood (all the other kids in the birthday video). The natural born son who they questioned said Ernie wouldn’t have shot himself to protect him.

The killer was the brother of the intended victim, she was in late stage Parkinson’s and wanted to die, so he smothered her. He was given away by tear drops containing his skin cells that got caught in her ear (naturally!).

Looks like they’re going to at least the end of the season with this arc…

So…

do you think we have already met the murderer?

How long ago did Ernie (the model train hobbyist) commit suicide? Didn’t they say that the booby trap in the fireplace was set weeks ago? Couldn’t he have installed it prior to committing suicide? (Of course, then the question is who mailed the package.)

If it’s not him, it should be possible to get the records showing names of the foster children he had and also investigate the modeling and miniatures community to see if one of them is active in it.

My theory on the identity of The Miniture Killer:

Very vague:

The killer is indeed one of Ernie’s foster kids. More specifically, it’s the chubby, dark-haired one who was relatively prominent in some of the home movie scenes.

Not-so vague:

He grows up to be a rather annoying CSI lab tech.

Spelling it out:

The Miniature Killer is Hodges.

My reasoning:
First off, the killer is almost certainly someone in the law enforcement field – they as much as said so in this episode. The killer had to know Grissom’s sabattical schedule, and more importantly, he has to know what makes Grissom tick – what would really peak his interest. Hodges fits this perfectly – he’s obsessed with Gil. And he certainly seems like the type who could build the miniatures. He’s probably doing all this as a way of getting Grissom’s approval in a way that he never seems to get through his actual work.

Also, I’m almost certain that Hodges once mentioned being chubby as a kid.
He’s going to wind up being the killer – bet on it. Of course, if you happen to know for a fact if I’m right or wrong, do me a favor and keep it to yourself. I still want to be surprised.

Hal, that would be awesome! I will think that’s a really great denouement if it’s correct – and I will have to give you the full-on “We’re not worthy” Wayne-and-Garth bow if you have figured that out in advance.

I spent about 20 minutes going, “Where do I know that guy from? Where do I know that guy from?” before it clicked – The Evil Mayor!

Anyone know why Wallace Langham (Hodges) is always cast as a “special guest star”?

I remember this same scenario from *Freaks & Geeks * - Busy Phillips had some sort of contract issues where she couldn’t be cast as a regular cast member on a show until some sort of contract ran out. So even though she was in the show every week, she was still a “special guest star” in the credits.

Same deal with Langham?

Louise Lombard was similarly listed for her first two seasons before being kicked upstairs to the opening credits for this one. Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders) and Robert David Hall (Albert “Doc” Robbins) were “only” Guest Stars for the first few seasons but they made it to the opening montage as their characters became more prominent. Now that you mention it, I don’t remember whether Langham is listed as “Special” or not; I’ll have to check the tapes. There were rumors last year that Langham would be in the opening credits due to his increasing presence but I don’t know why that didn’t pan out or indeed if it was ever in the works although I am pretty sure it’s not a contract issue. Not that anyone asked, but if they must expand the opening credits sequence I’d rather skip over both Langham and Lombard in favor of David Berman. Yay, Super Dave! :stuck_out_tongue:

Regarding the hypothesis posed by Hal Briston, which is also being bandied about on other message boards - that would explain some recent behavior of the character, but personally I think it would be a copout if he turned out to be the MCSK. I would like it if overt suspicion fell on him because it would be just desserts for such a paranoid brown-nosing gossip. And Nick did say something like, “it could be a cop, or someone in the lab”… :dubious:
