Only in a surveillance societylike Britain (and coming soon to the US!)…
That’s pretty damn funny.
Great thread title, too.
Next on “Benny Hill Street Blues”…
This made my day. Thanks.
In a world gone mad, there’s still something to laugh at.
Life imitates SpongeBob Squarepants.
I once lived in a small lakeside community. We had our own police farce. Residents were required to let them know when one was going to be gone for more than a day. I also had to keep reminding them that I worked evening shift so they didn’t wrestle me to the ground getting out of my car in my own driveway at midnight.
Once while i was on vacation, my neighbor was having a party. He parked his cars in my driveway, so their guests could park in theirs.
He was out on his deck at about 3:00 PM when he noticed the two officers creeping, in opposite directions, with guns drawn, around my house. He yelled at them that the cars were his before they met at the corner and shot each other.
Yes, the “surveillance society” is such a joke. Oh, wait…
Call me skeptical, but really? Required to tell the police you were out of town?
Yes, it was a very small community. As I said, if I didn’t remind them I was wouldn’t be home before midnight, I’d get a call or visit in the morning, a “welfare check.”
They had many strange rules. The community was on an 84 acre lake. One wasn’t allowed to swim more than 50 feet from shore. Once I turtled my sail boat, and before I could get it righted and back onboard, the police boat was there to tell me I could be ticketed for being in the water so far from shore.
It had been a gated community, but they only manned the gate on Halloween. I had a party one Halloween and had to send someone out to wait at the gate to ok people coming to the party. A couple late comers were escorted to my door by officer DoRight with his hand on his gun. His partner, Barney, stayed at the gate.
Informing law enforcement of your movements seems so unAmerican.
It was the '70s, I was young, I did what I was told, most of the time.
That’s a great episode.
With one bullet in his pocket.
It sounds to me like the guy in the monitor station was pulling a prank.
