That looks fine to me, but then the exchange among myself, @PhillyGuy and @Moriarty looked fine to me as well. And basically, the same – discussing the political impact of a potential VP pick’s record and positions on a hot-button topic.
I understand the difficulty in moderating these topics and appreciate the needle you’re trying to thread.
This post really did thread to hijack the thread. I believe your post and Moriarty’s answered it well enough for that thread.
Once again, I didn’t go into details in the modnote as I am probably too brusk at times, but the prior 2 days were very fast moving and brusk was all I had time for.
Of course none of these note were close to warnings, just an attempt to keep fast moving threads on focus.
And while that may be a fine example, I’ll note for me personally, I’d have itched to refute some of it in thread, and I’d have had to force myself to not accidently sidetrack. I’m normally pretty good at such discipline, or, at worst, engaging lightly with the sidetrack but returning to the point within the same post, but it’s always a challenge to me.
FTR: not a complaint about the moderation or @Loach’s comment, just niggles about the how’s and why’s of his comment.
Moving onto IMHO though, I suspect once we’re past the shock and awe moments of the news, that the mods can and will loosen the reins a bit. But right now people IRL and on the board are prone to fragmentation of focus. Myself included of course.
Oh, and while I’m posting in thread:
Matches my experience the vast majority of the time. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve flagged a post in any number of threads, many less charged, where there’s been a pleasant “Please stop” note and only hours later the mods have to come in and issue a “I’m serious, next is a warning” note.
Already have the template, I have to use it more regularly. Here it is again. I have several templates set up.
How to Reply as a linked Topic:
Click Reply, in the upper left corner of the reply window is the reply type button, looks like a curving arrow point to the right.
Choose Reply as linked topic and it starts a new thread. As an example, you can choose GD, IMHO or The Pit for it.
That is actually the best method.
To determine or change Theme:
Click on your Avatar next to the Menu. (Upper Right Corner)
Select Preferences (The last symbol on the right)

Moderating:
This is just a guidance, not a warning. Nothing on your permanent record.
That is pretty much my Templates. Available for use by all the moderators of the Gear button. Then Insert Template.
