Curious whether Kamala Harris is being pre-emptively kneecapped (Alpha Phi Alpha bans trans-men)

Going to try to make this a quick OP.

National Black Justice Coalition director David Johns was interviewed on CNN this morning (I believe Victor Blackwell was hosting). Johns’ organization this week called out one of the Divine Nine fraternities, Alpha Phi Alpha, for adopting a bylaw banning trans men from membership. Another Divine Nine fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma, passed a similar bylaw in 2017.

Kamala Harris was a member of the Divine Nine sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha while attending Howard University. She maintains her ties to the sorority and frequently speaks at Divine Nine events.

There’s been nothing wrong at all with Harris’ continued support and relationship with the Divine Nine organizations. However, the recent flap with Alpha Phi Alpha now give a cudgel for political opponents to use against her: Harris can be asked about Alpha Phi Alpha’s policy over and over again. She can also be asked to defend her affiliation with the the Divine Nine groups and how can she “excuse” the two groups that are holding to trans men bans.

Anyway. Listening to Johns’ interview this morning just kind of made me think things. This is a story that has gotten very little mainstream coverage. Not to say that it’s not a worthwhile story . It’s just that when you combine the just-now CNN coverage with AOC’s comments yesterday about Democratic knives already being surreptitiously planted into Harris’ back, before Biden has even stepped down … just feels like some gears are starting to turn.

Asking a presidential candidate about the policy of their college fraternity/sorority in an attempted gotcha is conceding the whole damn election. Sidestepping this question will be child’s play for Harris - there’s no reason to give the question a serious answer.

As in “The Republicans conceding the whole damn election?” Going after the fraternity thing might be a weak play, but I hadn’t thought of it as a fraught one.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this story and see if it gets more run now that Harris is all but the Democratic presidential candidate right now.

As in, whoever asks such a question has run out of questions of actual substance 14 questions ago.

One can hope. Peter Doocy might throw stinky bait like that.
