Curlers!

It’s Monday night competitive league at the Charlotte Curling Association! So in a few I’m out to go prove again that I can’t skip worth beans. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone else here who thinks curling isn’t something to do to your hair?

I think there are a couple of us around. I play at a club in the suburbs of Boston. This is my sixth year, so I’ve aged out of the five-and-under tournaments. I’m finally skipping in my Friday night league.

There’s a bunch of us around, and in a pinch the Canadian contingent will at least sympathize with you.

There are a couple of us here. As it happens, I started a similar thread about curling about five months ago.

I’m going to be at the Cape Cod curling club’s “Spirit of Curling” event this coming weekend, and the Ardsley Curling Club’s “Cool Duck” event next weekend. Both are 5-and-unders.

If you, or anyone here, ever find your way to Broomstones give me a shout and we’ll meet up.

Well, it’s nice to know there are some others around.

I was instrumental in getting Charlotte’s dedicated ice facility built; we’re in our third year there, having been in existence only since 2010. Soooooo thankful not to be playing any more on arena ice…

We’re hosting the bonspiel “Grits and Granite” next weekend. Not sure if TESN intends to send a crew down…

You folks are hosting this year’s Kayser event in February, and we’ve already got a team together planning to play in it!

I forgot we were hosting this year, but I was just coming to the thread to point that out. I don’t have any specific plans yet, but I’m sure I’ll be in the kitchen or doing something to help out.

That right there is enough to get me to put Charlotte on my short list of Cities to Retire To!

Got some advice for you, from my saintly ol’ dad. As his team would take the ice he’d half-jokingly tell his second (within earshot of the opposing team): **“Ok, skip throws guards!”
**
(In case no one gets it, each end would have so many scoring rocks that all the skip had left to do was to protect them)

We don’t have a lot of curling in the desert, (not none, but some) but we eagerly await Curling Night…IN America!

Yeah. I’m mate.

Sorry to bring up a semi-zombie thread, but I’m going to be playing in the Kayser event at Broomstones next weekend. I’m the skip of Bucks team 8 - we’ll be playing our first match on Thursday at 2:45PM on sheet 2.

Maybe I’ll see you there.

I’ll make a point to say hello if I see your team at the club. Let me know if you need any help getting around Boston.

How many Bucks teams are there?

There are three Bucks County teams. playing. There are also something like five Philadelphia teams playing.

(About 25% of the members of the BCCC are also members of the PCC, so a team labelled as belonging to one club often has players in it that belong to both clubs.)

I was at the curling club today helping get ready for the 'spiel. sevenwood, I didn’t see a Bucks 8 team, but I think I found you in the draw schedule.

Looks like travel will be kinda nasty tomorrow, and I hear we’ve had one team pull out already because they can’t get here. I hope you make it here safely. I may not be at the club tomorrow, but I’ll keep an eye out for you on Friday or later.

It doesn’t look like I can send you a PM. I won’t post anything here that would give away your identity.

For the historical record: Robot Arm and I met at the Kayser event at the Broomstones Curling Club, and had a pleasant chat. I don’t remember much about it, but I may have been suffering from too many free drinks at the time :}

For those of us who are non-curlers, free drinks are a side effect of losing your game - and my team lost every game we played.

Broomstacking is what makes it all so fun!!!

I’ve never curled, but I did skip watching the Super Bowl to watch Curling Night in America.(And I might check out curling, if the Triangle Curling Club would stop holding events the same time as hockey games.)

It was nice to meet you, and I’m glad you could come and enjoy our hospitality. No one leaves Broomstones thirsty.

Or hungry. It’s interesting helping out in the kitchen during a big bonspiel. I think we were cooking for 150-200 people.

I don’t know Triangle Curling Club’s full schedule, but I cannot believe that they don’t have some variation of a Learn To Curl that isn’t in conflict with the local hockey team.

And if they don’t, come on down to Charlotte Curling Association and let us introduce you to the sport!
