I just had one of those strange cross cultural experiences. I’m used to the differences in how people write dates, time of day, etc. but I never thought of currency demoninations as being different.
I went into a Korean bank to withdraw US$300 from my dollar account. Since spoken English doesn’t always work well I wrote down:
1 x $100
10 x $20
I was surprised when I saw the clerk preparing to give me 20 ten dollar bills and 100 one dollar bills.
Would anyone else interpret it this way?
