current figures on registered members and paid subscribers

To get an idea of how long someone’s been here, hover over their name, and down at the bottom of your browser window, you’ll see something like http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php?userid=41

The number at the very end is the person’s serial number here, so mine indicates that I’m the 41[sup]st[/sup] person to sign up, way back in March of 1999.

You can also click on the name and a little popup will give you the option to view the member’s public profile, or as I look at it, the “do they have a life?” page, as it will list how many posts they’ve made, as well as how many posts per day it works out to.

That’s a juicy piece of information. I notice a few close to the source in this very thread, including #2. More likely sooner than later I’ll encounter #1, unless someone would like to share.

As ‘Guest’ I don’t have that privilege.

Be glad to.

User #1 was a test account, now deleted.

#2 is the lowest you’ll find, and you’ve had the pleasure of her presence in your thread.

To save you the trouble, I’m #207.

And there is a solution to your dilemma: Register.

There is no #1; that was also our first corrupt file of the database and it became unusable.

That was my original registration.

I’m further down the list now. Doesn’t matter.

Cecil, of course, is lowly #31. Hell, even Ed beats that.

(Says number 60,378.)

Want a little syrup to go with that waffle, Lynn?

( Ducks, tries to run, * CAN NOT ESCAPE* the awesome power. Is crushed much like a bug. Hell. I turn 45 in 20 minutes. Can you imagine a better way to shuffle off this mortal coil ??? )

To answer the query, I’d rather not be seen as Online or Offline either. Our posts have timestamps. If one is in a “hot thread” and one realizes that one is posting against others posting in real time, then you know who is online and who is not as a result. That’s frequently fun.

Otherwise, why would it matter if I was online or not?

More to the point, since I’m about to be smited ( Smote? Smitted? Smoten? Hmmm… :dubious: ) for my insolent post, I suppose my thoughts on whether or not I show as Online aren’t really relevant.

Cartooniverse, who prays like a muthah that Lynn Bodoni at least smirked at my joke. Perhaps a guffaw?
Perhaps not…

I’m UserID # 2964, and yet I am a Nintety-Niner. That means that quite a few folks were signed up in the early days. Of course, not all are still posting ( primping. What the hell. I’ll be slain soon enough, might as well primp !! ).

Still, it’s interesting to me that we had that many registered names by Oct. 1999.

It is a pleasure, I’ve noticed.

Thank you very much for the invitation. I think I will.

It certainly does matter. Glad to know who #1 is! No one can even say you’re #1-asterisk since it diminishes no one else, being unoccupied.

This is just a lie to prevent people from discovering the real truth about the SDMB.

Ed Zotti is not a number. He is a free man.

In your face, Number 6!
