Current Status of SDMB Upgrade

NineToTheSky

The current status of the upgrade will always be in the first post of this thread. There are a couple things not on the Next Priorities list that have to do with the search engine but the rest of the status is up to date.

So what’s new on the upgrade? Anything at all on the search function? It is still barely working and still doesn’t allow compound searches like “Compound Search”.

Also there was my post from a two weeks back. It can only help.

Not just compound searches – it still will not work on some single words, such as World, which returns Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1007

I got the same error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1007

And of course now I need to wait 5 minutes.

I will try it with the last 6 months setting.
It took longer to fail but fail it did:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1007

I am impressed by this new system and doubly impressed by the new air of professionalism imbued by OPs like these. Kudos, Jerry.

I’ve noticed that the ‘time of last visit’ now takes more than 15 minutes of inactivity to reset. As this was always one of my pet peeves here, I think this is great, but how long is the time limit now?

Here’s a kind of silly minor inquiry for Jerry (sort of rhetorical; no need to actually respond). In the old version of vB, clicking the “go to last post” link for a thread took you to an abstract “last post” url like ?showthread.php?t=1234#lastpost. That “#lastpost” at the end popped you right to the bottom of the thread. On the new version, you get taken to a url specifically to the last post, e.g. ?showthread?p=54321#post54321. Same result, right? Not quite: with the old way, if you reloaded the resulting page, you’d keep getting bumped down to the latest posts (handy in an active thread). The new way, when you reload the page, you keep getting taken back up to that same “last post” that is no longer the last post.

Feels kind of petty to complain about, but if that’s easy to switch back, it gets my vote.

I’m just here to chime in about hoping the “charter status” problem gets fixed soon.

I’ve lost “charter member” status as well.

Remember the old Mothers of Invention song, “Status Back Baby?”

"Everyone in town knows I’m a handsome football star
I sing and dance and spray my hair and drive a shiny car
I’m friendly and I’m charming I belong to De Molay
I’m gonna try like mad to Get my status back today

Status back, Baby, Status back, Baby"

Reporting a problem (haven’t read through the whole thread, sorry). I received e-mail notification of a PM about an hour ago, but as yet, the PM isn’t showing up in my PM box.

I just sent you a PM, as a test. Hope you get it.

Thanks. It came through right away, along with the one from an hour ago.

Problem solved!

Whoever fixed this latest problem, Thank you very much for fixing it so late on a Saturday night.

Jim

Charter Member user titles have been restored for anyone who has maintained an active subscription since 04/28/04 at 12:00 PM. The Charter Member half price subscription (currently $7.48) has been restored.

Things to note. There will no longer be a 5 day grace period to renew your Charter Member subscription. Once a Charter Member subscription expires and you’re moved to Guest status you will not be able to regain Charter Member status. Please renew your subscription prior to your subscription expiration. If not your options become a Member subscription at $14.95 or remaining at Guest status.

Wow! Thanks, Jerry!

My charter member title has not been restored. I have maintained a subscription since the beginning and have not come close to lapsing. Please tell me why I have not had my title restored when everyone else has?

When your account name was changed/merged vBulletin deleted all information about your old account including your Charter Member subscription information. That is why you were reverted to a Guest.

I’ve recreated your subscription from a backup copy of the SDMB prior to your account name change and have set you back as a Charter Member. Sorry for your problem with the subscription. It was a separate issue than what other Charter Members were experiencing by having their user title changed to Member. While their subscriptions remained (and thus I was able to fix their user titles yesterday) your subscription had been completely deleted for a different reason.

I’ve notified the admins to be aware of this potential subscription deletion problem when performing name changes/merges in the future. Once again, my apologies.
