The curse has been averted for now. Evidently the piece of brick I hit, jarred the mower and one loose bolt fell out. The recoil only having three bolts to begin with was loose, and no longer sitting properly on the crown of the running motor. Hence the noise. That particular bolt was also the one that held the oil dipstick tube in its hole, with the recoil up in the air, oil was shooting up under the plastic motor cover, spinning in the recoil and motor crown and dripping all over the top of mower. My father and I fixed it yesterday and we finished mowing the lawn with no more problems. I still say the pit thread stands on its own, just short it one lawnmower, until…
Qadgop - My riding mower died two weeks ago. According to the neighbor guy, there’s no compression, which is apparently a Bad Thing. I replaced the moter on this mower last year, and it was down a good bit of this year, before the death knell sounded. I really need an old, indestructable tractor with a mower and a bush hog.
Hey, don’t drag me into this. I had to send my riding lawnmower to the repair shop earlier this year because the belt drive failed. I got it fixed and it’s running now, so don’t jinx me, okay?
I help my sister out with mowing. She has 2 riding mowers and a push mower. Week before last all 3 were broken. I’ve got 2 back in working order again.
At home I have to buy a new push mower every 3 or 4 years. I don’t have good luck with mowers either. Ok, I don’t do much maintainence on them but I don’t abuse them either.
Mine’s in the shop for the second time in 1.5 weeks. It just won’t start. The first time, they replaced several things, sent it back to me, supposedly repaired. Except that it won’t start.
I went out and bought a manual mower, to use in an emergency. Except now the lawn’s over 6" high, and I can’t push the damn thing hard enough to cut it. So I cut a little patch each day.
Eleven years ago, I decided that too many Briggs & Stratton engines had perished in my care. I bought a John Deere 14SB with the Kawasaki engine. I’m still mowing with it today, knock wood. Well, tomorrow, I guess. Chances are not good for doing any mowing this evening. The blade brake clutch blew out a few years ago, but the motor’s calmly ticking along.
