Cutting a plastic mat aka saving my legs

I purchased a plastic mat, the kind that you would put on top of carpeting so your office chair can roll.

I’m using this to keep some computers off the carpet but it’s too long for the area and I had to curve one end up.

I’m concerned now about someone (well me) tripping over the curved edge or cutting themselves on the plastic spikes which I’ve already scratched myself on a few times.

I don’t want to move the computers off it and take it out of my room so how would you cut it?

I’d use a box cutter or exacto knife, and just score it a bunch of times, and see if you could get it to snap off after a while.

If you can get ahold of a heat gun, you can greatly soften the rigid vinyl sheet, and “form” it down flat where you need it to be flat, and then pin it with large books, until it cools.

Or, cut it as recommended above.

Tin snips. Do be careful, though. Those spiky mats have hurt me more times than I like to think about.

Paging Gary Larson!

My husband cut some similar stuff and this is what he did: he scored a line using a metal straightedge, as deep as he could cut into the stuff. Then he snapped it off using the metal straightedge to keep the break ‘clean’.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone I’ll report back which I used next weekend
