A UW rereacher found a fact that is disturbing with CWD and it’s related wasting cousins. The prions tightly bind with montmorillonite common in clay soil. The prions in this clay were 700 times more infectous than the protein alone fed to hamsters. The prions had to be boiled with detergent to remove them from the montmorillonite.
