I haven’t been down either road for ages. For the longest time 1 wasn’t even divided for a chunk west of Brandon, but I believe that’s all complete. I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t paved shoulders the whole way as well. My memory says that 2 was one of those roads scarcely wider than the two driving lanes, but the satellite images suggest I’m wrong. In any even, after riding on the 1 from Medicine Hat I think I’d be inclined to switch to 2. The traffic is mostly of the rural/agricultural type, so while there’d be a few big trucks it wouldn’t be the nonstop stream of heavy traffic you get on the TransCanada.
