So far the best one I’ve found for my use is Fast Character Generator. It is free and it is indeed fast. But not perfect of course. Has issues with Feats and doesn’t always generate a suggested spell list.
I use this to speed up the process of making significant NPCs and I cut and paste the info into a format I prefer. Often getting 4 characters onto a sheet.
Anyone know of a fairly fast PC/NPC generator better than this one?
I know even the paid version from D&D Beyond is clunky.
Example of my format: though mine is colored and font tweaked.
I’ll go one better and replace it with a snapshot instead of what it really looks like. Click the thumbnail for the full picture.
It’s a format meant for printing. But that’s not really the important part of the Op. I’m looking for the best character generator that lets me cut & paste into a Word Doc.
I actually appreciate the link–that’s a pretty cool site!
My ideal way of running NPCs that need stats is to rough it. What spells are fun for them? What’s a fun to-hit, and fun damage? They don’t need all the stats; rather, they need to be good at some things, medium at some things, and bad at some things, and if I know a number for bad/medium/good, that’s probably enough.
But I’m a teeny bit OCD, so I don’t usually meet this ideal, and instead spend far too long fully statting them out in roll20 using their charactermancer.
I ref’d 1st ed 42 years. I had a huge reserve of NPCs built up and a complete knowledge of the rules to fall back on. I’m still finding my way in 5e 4 years later.
So I’m trying to build back up a supply of NPCs among other things.
I would think it would be easier to convert the 1st ed. NPCs than create new ones. There has to be a character converter out there somewhere. I know WotC has a guideline doc for this, you can’t tell me someone hasn’t automated that yet (but I can’t find one easily, so maybe not).
