I finally succumbed to the desire to turn Final Fantasy Tactics into a actual roleplay, and I’ve started a forum to do worldbuilding and game engine design.
I’d really appreciate some feedback on my latest spate of insanity. (And, if anybody actually wants to play along, even better!)
Interesting. I wish there was one long text document that handled all introductory knowledge, however. I dn’t have the time to go from post to post so as to give feedback know, however.
As a long-time roleplayer, a Final fantasy fanatic, and a guy who just beat the Deep Dungeon with all 40 rare found items and the Zodiac summon about 2 hours ago for the first, let me just say, “Wow!”
I mean, there’s a lot of work to do on it, obviously. And I’d be interested to see how the non-human races come along (is it only tactics, or will you be taking bits and pieces of Tactics Advance, and FFXII when it comes out? I realize Tactics Advance is aimed at a much younger crowd with a very different style and storyline, so I’m guessing no…).
Obviously you know your stuff, so I’m a bit reluctant to offer to help out on details and whatnot (I wouldn’t have time to moderate, which is probably what you most need at this point). I do have some fairly complete maps of Ivalice I was planning to use for a website about the Final Fantasies.
(I was interested in the historical details – many of which were partially mistranslated. They really did their research on Medieval Europe, and there are hints of the 100 Years War, and the War of the Roses, and some other Medieval conflicts throughout. Unfortunately, the translators needed o be hit over the head with large Medieval history books – translated “Teutonic Knight” as “Touton” knight in Gaff Gafgarion’s profile, for instance. But I could rant about that all day…)
Actually, what I most need (right now, at least) is someone to take all that information and put it onto the board. And also give feedback on whether my tweaks to it would unbalance the game or make it too complicated.
At this point I’m also undecided on whether to write this as a D&D-style game, or more geared towards roleplay. (Obviously, if it’s going to happen strictly via webboard, dicerolls would be rather impractical.)
I’ll proably be able to start working on transitioning FFTA races and job classes over without too much of a problem, but I’ve never played FFXI (that’s the MMORPG, right?) so that’ll have to wait a lot longer.
Which information specifically? The historical details?
I did finally manage to upload the maps
I think most people are going to move over toward roleplay. After all, video games handle numbers better, and part of the pleasure of tabletop (cybertabletop?) is stretching the imagination.
I’ve never gamed online. How are random elements determined?
FFXI is an MMORPG. FFXII isn’t out yet, but it’s the first of the main series to be set in Ivalice. I don’t much about it yet, though they’ve released pictures of the major characters. The graphics are incredible.
