For any of you interested in the events that started 57 years ago today, take a look at one of the American Miltary cemeteries on very expensive real estate, at Colleville-sur-Mer, France. It was one of the most humbling sights I have seen in my life, just after I ended my US Navy active duty, in France, 45 years ago.
Wow … I didn’t realize at first that there were dozens of photographs linked to the map. Thanks for sharing this.
D-Day - June 6, 1944 - 67 years ago.
I was there when I traveled to Europe…it is very moving. Hearing the carillon play the national anthem on the hour made me quite verklempt.
I hope one day that I can travel to the D-Day cemeteries. Here are links to a few of the others that honour those participants who went on D-Day and who never came home:
Bény-sur-Mer (Canadian)
Bretteville-sur-Laize (Canadian)
Hermanville War Cemetery (British)
