Da Vinci's Inquest.

Does anybody else watch this Canadian import? Seems that nobody at work does.
Well, I like it. Don’t know why. It’s kinda slow, and I can see where it might be easy to criticize. But I always find myself hurrying back before the commercial ends so I won’t miss anything. It seems, I dunno, real. The characters are pretty ordinary, and explosions etc are rare. The stories are generally pretty good.
It’s on here late Saturday evening. Maybe that’s it’s appeal for me.
So, am I it?
Peace,
mangeorge

I’ve seen it a few times. It’s OK - I wouldn’t change my schedule to see it but I might watch it when it’s on.

As it happens, the gap-toothed cop was the masked villain on Smallville tonight.

Sigh. You’d think they’d know that “da Vinci” was not really the great Renaissance master’s name. It’s “Leonardo.”

It’s not “da Vinci”, but “Da Vinci”. It’s the coroners surname. Many modern surnames are derived from old place of origin names.
Are The Master’s decendants named Da Vinci?

Ah. So it has nothing to do with Leonardo, then?

If so, then I retract my objection.

Nah. This one’s name is, I think Dominic.

I’ve often wondered if it has an audience outside of Canada, myself.

Heh. It’s based on Vancouver’s former coroner and last mayor, Larry Campbell – a truly awesome, no-bullshit guy.

I liked the show’s gritty approach, but it seemed to me that they let a lot of stuff go without any exposition that might not carry any significance to people who don’t know Vancouver fairly well. I guess most of that stuff is merely incidental and not liable to leave anyone confused, though.

If you like Da Vinci’s Inquest, you might like Cold Squad, another Vancouver-based show. It’s basically the precursor to Cold Case, but (in my opinion) better. Not so formulaic, with roughly parallel but more fully-developed characters, and a lot more realistic. (The end of the series blew me away. At the time, I thought it was an incredibly messed-up cliffhanger for the next season, but it was just an almost incomprehensibly dark way to ring out a show that had reached the end of its seven-year run.) Anyway, the first season (at least) is available on DVD, and it’s pretty high-quality stuff.

Thanks for the reccommendation, Larry. I’ll go to Netflix and rent Cold Squad. I see that CTV followed Da Vinci’s move to mayor. I don’t know if I can get that here, but I’ll check.
I like Cold Case, but I am getting pretty tired of the lead’s “weepy” look. Otherwise the show can be interesting.

If you have cable, and SuperstationWGN is available, you can watch Da Vinci’s Inquest there. The show is even featured on WGN’s home page.
