Daily Show 8/2/04

At least then they wouldn’t be co-opting the news media in spreading beneficial disnformation.

Right. That was just a beauty.

Part of the ongoing themes with the Daily Show is precisely the idea that the average viewer/voter generally gets either of these versions of the info:

(a) a dumbed-down, oversimplified soundbite with no real attribution; or

(b) and obfuscatingly overnuanced explanation with no real conclusion as to what does the politico stand for…

… and both are annoying distractions from trying to find out if what was said is or is not true.

Darn it! I can find a transcript of the Hewitt interview. Just lots and lots of pictures…

Oh, right. Could somebody help me out? I watched the interview and I don’t remember Jon being that mean.

Politicians not going on TV? Come on, they might try that for a while but their need to get their message across would eventually take priority.

Damn right, The Daily Show has a bias. As Jon Steward has said, he’s biased against stupidity.

When RNC chairman Ed Gillespie comes on the Daily, the dude can hold his own against Jon. You can see the mutual respect they have for one another’s intelligence, and while they disagree, it’s usually very respectful and friendly, 'cause Ed doesn’t try to shovel shit in Jon’s house.

And, obviously, Jon Stewart would mop the floor with my intellectually deficient ass. :smack:

… but if he mopped the floor with your ass, wouldn’t he get shit in his house? I don’t understand kids today with their slang and their rock and roll hops.

You can see the pertinent video footage yourself at http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/thedailyshowwithjonstewart/ although there seems to be some funny way you have to set up the website with regards to your player preferences. Man, I didn’t know it was going to be that obvious. It’s a sad day when the comedy network has to be the one to stand up for real journalism.

So, when was the last time Jon Stewart mopped the floor with an ass who happens to be a Democrat? It’s not like there is a lack of idiots on that side, either.

He threw nothing but softballs to Michael Moore, for example.

He didn’t deny it. He just didn’t mention it at the beginning of the interview although he did mention he was teaching while he was writing it. Stewart picked up on that and ran with it, and Franken playd along by just giving minimal and seemingly reluctant bits of information as Stewart questioned him. I don’t think it was set up, but Franken did an excellent job of acting like he was being forced to admit something that he didn’t want to admit.

So, in retrospect, this example wasn’t really a good one to show that Stewart will challenge Dems, but it does show that Franken is faster on his feet than Bonilla.

Hmmph. I just watched the clip, and it didn’t seem like Stewart really lit into the guy very much. John certainly had plenty of ammunition, but… nothing much happened.

Somebody please tell me how Stewart kicked Bonilla verbally in the balls. Am I missing something?

Did you watch the clip, Sam? My take was “big whoop” – did I witness a partisan attack but miss the punchline? Assuming you watched the video (link above) do you really feel this was a takedown/assault/whatever? I thought it was weak (on Stewart’s part) at best and not a very good interview takedown; even the interviewee was chortling.

In any case, Sam, I should hope JS treats liberal guests more forcefully. This was just soft-touch journalism, IMHO. JS, please go kick some butt. Choose one, there are plenty on any side of any issue to go around.

Don’t worry, Sam, there are right-wing comedy fake-news interview shows, too. O’Reilly’s is a perfect example. But you’re not protesting his uniformly soft treatment of Republicans, are you?
