Daily Show Thread: Week of March 27

I’ll try this one more time.

I wasn’t blown away by TDS or Colbert on Monday, but I thought both shows were excellent tonight. Jason Jones in Denmark was gold, and Fareed Zakaria is always a quality guest. Colbert interviewing Mike “Heck of a Job” Brown(“ie”) was pretty special. I couldn’t believe he agreed to go on Comedy Central. It’s almost a shame Colbert couldn’t attack him harder because of the limits of the character, but he got a few really solid jokes in there. And he did tell him “you suck.”

Maybe I was just in a good mood, but I thought Monday’s show was great. Jon seemed to be getting in a lot of good stuff (like the challenge to Zakaria). I busted up over “your attempts at assimiliation aren’t working”. Though the guest segment did seem a little off.

No comments on Tuesday yet (iTMS puts them up sometime in the night, and I don’t watch them until the next day).

Zakaria was the guest on Tuesday. Monday’s guest was Michael Gordon.

I think PJ is referring to Jon’s throwaway “Zakaria hasn’t written a book this thick!” comment, just after mentioning he would be on the show Tuesday.

Funniest part of Monday night- the look on Gordon’s face coupled with the extreeeeeeeeemely long pause when Jon asked him what the military did right.

I’ll bump this once now that my suspicion of the last few days has been confirmed: Lou Dobbs has lost his mind.

TDS and Colbert both very funny last night. “What are we doing to pigs?” was good, and the graphic for that War on Easter thing was stunning. Samantha Bee is back, and “Lefkowitz, party of four” was great. Here comes part two of Jason Jones’s Denmark thing…

I don’t think that Danish historian was real pleased when Jones asked if the Vikings were the first Nazis.

Yeah, that was pretty funny, as were all the references to “Wikings.”

By the way, did anyone see the bit earlier in the week on The Daily Show where they showed the FOX news report about the serial killer, complete with video of hot college co-eds in bikinis? My jaw was on the floor watching that; i didn’t think even FOX could be so shameless.

Sharon Stone appears to have caught retarded.

“Who inwented the Wikings?”

And that thing where he pointed out the difference between happy Wikings and angry Wikings on Danish foodstuff. “Do you always carry meat with you?”

I think she has had it for a while. I happily fell asleep a few minutes into her awful interview.
Wikings is just how it is pronounced there.

The Brownie Episode was strange. I wish Colbert could have slammed him and Chernoff for screwing up the relief effort but Brownie seemed to be willing to take some abuse at least.

I think I was too tired this week to add anything else.

Jim.

That kinda pissed me off. “A-hyuk, I shore did screw up big, didn’t I?” I dunno, I’m not in the mood to be amused by such a fuckup.

It really was a strange interview. He had a lot of bad things to say, but I guess it was aaalllll the bureaucracy’s fault.

(Contrary to my OP, what Colbert actually said was “You sucked.”)

I’m 2 days behind in my Tivo viewing, but I thought the week got off to a horrible start. The Michael Gordon interview was strangely disjointed; I really don’t think Jon had even skimmed it. And Tuesday: we had the Andrew Card resignation story, Jason Jones in Denmark, and Fareed. That was it. It’s like the writers and correspondents all had the day off.

The show has changed a bit lately…Jon isn’t even attempting to format the news segment as if it was really a news segment – he’s just cracking jokes about the headlines. And he hasn’t had an interview guest that he’s really respected/connected with in a while. I hate to use the “shark” term, but I’m worried.

Election in November…

ahhh…“Indecision 2008”. You’re right; it will be good.

Indecision 2006, anyway. TDS definitely gets better when the political climate heats up.

What year is this, anyway? :checks watch:

By golly, you’re right.

I stayed awake for Sharon Stone’s segment. I don’t think Jon asked her anything about the movie, except “It’s a sequel?”

Speaking of the movie, the clip they showed looked like something from a high school play. Who is that wooden guy she’s supposed to be terrorizing? Terrible scene, for him anyway.
