"Daily Variety" Ceasing Daily Editions - Going To Weekly Editions

Kind of sad news - Daily Variety will no longer be daily.

I used to love working at the movie studios and getting my Daily Variety (and Hollywood Reporter) delivered to my desk each morning. Even at the school where I work, they get Daily Variety and I pick it up during lunch breaks.

But I suppose the readership has gone down there as well, and it wasn’t exactly cheap to get a subscription.

There will still be a weekly version - but it just won’t be the same.

Variety was not only a great source for Film, Television, Stage and Music, it was also a great source for the “slanguage” of show business.

One of the more famous headlines (as per Wikipedia entry below):

STICKS NIX HICK PIX was a headline printed in Variety, a newspaper covering Hollywood and the entertainment industry, on July 17, 1935, over an article about the reaction of rural audiences to movies about rural life. It is one of the most famous headlines ever to appear in an American publication.
