Be grateful – it used to be 5 minutes.
Dammit, I pay for this site and I should have the ability to do more than one search every 2 minutes
This is how I search in Google:
SDMB: searchtopic
The first link will be the best match, and then there will be a few other links listed below, and if none of those look correct the final link will be “More results from boards.straightdope.com.”
It’s dead easy. Click here for a perfect example.
Works like a charm.
ETA: “searchtopic” being the actual string that you’re searching for.
Searching google using SDMB mostly works, but occasionally you’ll get results from things like the Sonaran Desert Mountain Bikers.or the Surveillance and Data Management Branch (part of the Division of STD Prevention at the Center for Disease Control).
Using site:straightdope.com is more reliable, though it does require a bit more typing.
Someone – I’M SORRY for not giving the credit, because I lost it – posted this a while back. Save it to a bookmark:
javascript:void(location.href='Google)
And, while you’re at it, somebody tell me why my bracketsnoparse/noparse pair no workee.
Can you reproduce the “new posts” results using google? That’s the one I want to use, and it has the same incredibly annoying wait. (Especially after it doesn’t do anything the first time.)
I would LOVE if they reduced the wait time to something reasonable, like 15 seconds. That would still avoid most DDS attacks, but would improve functionality for users.
Yeah, we’ve upgraded to AD related performance issues.
How often do you have to know if there have been any new posts in the last 15 seconds?
Use the “back” button of your browser to return to the new posts page instead of trying to do a new search.
When I remember, I do that. But I don’t have to on any other forum I visit, and I often forget. Then it seems to get messed up and confused. It’s incredibly annoying.
See above.
