120 seconds are too much. Wouldn’t it be better if you shrink the gap between searches? This is I guess the only forum which has makes you wait too much for searching.
Welcome to this MB. I’d search for all the threads we’ve had on this subject over the years, but I just did a vanity search 30 seconds ago, and I can’t do another search right now.

At one time it was thought that some of the serious board problems were due to too-frequent searches, and the 2 minute limit was imposed. The problems went away, although it probably wasn’t due to the new limit. Nevertheless, the authorities don’t want to take any chances.
Besides, google is a better search engine for SDMB than SDMB’s is. Look for the sticky in ATMB for instructions: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=638051

Pretty sure the admins lost the instruction book on how to do pretty much anything board related in 2000 something. Now they are ashamed and fake it.
They obviously need some capybaras. Oh, and some wheels large enough for them to run around in, of course.

Some boards give perks to “paying” members. How about reducing the waiting time for those who support financially, and let 120 stand for the non-paying members?
I’d seriously consider paying for a shorter search interval myself.

Welcome to the board, Fear of the Dark. I don’t think this is the tone you want to take in your first couple of posts here. I’ll ask where we stand on the search delay but I don’t expect we’re going to change it right now.
You’d know that how? 
This isn’t helpful either. We’ve said for a long time that Google is a better option than the SDMB search engine anyway, and shortening the delay wouldn’t fix that.
OK. Let’s keep waiting for 120 seconds then.
